Fireplace delivery is important- What to consider
A fireplace comprises of a fire surround (body of fireplace), a back panel and a hearth. Fire surrounds are very easy to damage during the transportation stage, and correct handling is essential. Many companies believe they can transport fire surrounds via cheap palletised deliveries to lower cost. There are several problems that may result.
1. How do you handle the fireplace once it is left at your front door on a pallet?
2. You are not able to inspect the goods prior to signing.
Fire surrounds must be packaged in protective shock proof material, such as blankets or bubble wrap. Each section should ideally be placed in a crate to avoid movement during the delivery process. We believe that all home deliveries should be made by either a two man delivery service, or an automated service where by the fireplace can be carried into any room in the home.
How to inspect a fireplace:
1. Check for any clear signs of damaged packaging, this is usually a good indication if any section has been damaged.
2. Check each piece for scratches and damage
3. It is a good idea to also have a look for signs of poor workmanship, as you have the right to reject delivery if needed.
4. Count the number of pieces you have received and check them against the delivery note. If the delivery note does not specify what you should receive, then make a hand written note clearly stating how many pieces you have received.
