Can You Paint A Marble OR Timber Fire Surround?
Perhaps one of the easiest ways to change the look of your existing fire surround is to paint it. Some timber fire surrounds are actually sold untreated which means they are designed to be painted, waxed or oiled to your requirements. It is even possible to paint them in any colour you like (typically timber surrounds are often painted white or cream). Marble Fire surrounds on the other hand do not need to ever be painted or treated. Unlike timber surrounds, it is not possible to paint the surface of the material. To maintain a marble fire surround you simply need to wipe it down with a damp cloth and clean it afterwards.
JuraStone Painted Marble fireplaces:
- The only exception to the rule about not being able to paint marble fireplaces is if you use a special paint called Jura-Stone.
- Jura-Stone paint & technique was originally developed to cover the surface of unappealing natural marble to make it look better and is still available in today’s market. Low cost countries that extract and product marble such as China & Egypt have an abundance of colours that are not very appealing to European tastes and as a result would look better if they are covered with suitable paint. In their local markets heavily veined material is still very popular, however this sort of material would not be suitable for the European fireplace market.
